A former Executive Director of Hillel at Ohio State University consulted with Devon in the design of livable liturgy for their students and team during the High Holidays.
In addition to supporting students, including those students who are on the spectrum and could explore liturgy as puzzles as in the image to the left, Devon supported the Executive Director in personally exploring confession during the holiest days and finding words that spoke the truth of their leadership and very soul.
The text of the Upside Down Unetanneh Tokef is below:
Upside Down Unetanneh Tokef
(read poem forward and then back)
I should be hiding
So, don’t tell me that
You/We contain Truth
And I will remind myself that
You do not perform wonders
And I will not be deluded into believing
I am not made in Your Image
Because I refuse to believe
That I am worthwhile
That I deserve the Divine Mercy to look upon myself with loving compassion and to see
That all You have revealed exists within me
Because when I look at myself, all I can think of is:
G-d, are you really as merciless and unforgiving to have made an impure “me”?
