We did it.

Refracted: The Jewish Anti-Fascist Liturgical Playbook for the Prismatic Shifting of Global Jewish Life is LIVE!

With Jewish anti-fascist image-intentions-and-incantations that align with the Weekday and Shabbat prayer rhythms, if you’re looking for the place between daily agitation and world-building recreation, this book would be honoured to accompany you on your way/s.

Jewish. JEW-ish.

Not Jewish.

Come one and come all, just as you are/n’t.

If you know anything about my life, you know financial reparation is not only a cherished Jewish spiritual practice but a life-giving one that refocuses my attention and support to every person who lacks. Giving isn’t about feeling good but making good, so that people who suffer are resourced, cared for and supported, as they need.

That is why, with consent of the people who are receiving this, *every* sale from this book is going to the Gaza Soup Kitchen in perpetuity (details/tachlis: Every sale will land in a specific bank account opened by me for the Gaza Soup Kitchen; and when a sale shows up in my bank account, I will donate it immediately; and after I die, this practice of GSK receiving sales from this book will continue as I have written in my will).

In a world all to intent on ceaseless destruction and numbed out apathetic instruction, channeling Jewish prayer, money and daily rituals into public good is exactly the creative dust necessary to conjure different worlds and times where we honour every human being made vulnerable by politics of societal exclusion and global deluge of ongoing mass death.

I hope you’ll come with.

And:

I hope you’ll hold fast.

To each other. To neighbours.

To worlds made possible beyond bombs, violent bereavement and fear.

To our Jewish, human hearts.

About the book:

This is a (re)story about light and dark.

Here, you will find soulful, life-pouring affirmations and honest-but-hopeful punch gut prompts.

In these pages, we reimagine the beginning and end of the world with words and images that embrace the world, you and the stranger, too, with illumination, spiritual re-direction and re-dedication and loving-most rebuke.

Of light and dark, we will build a new altar, a different temple. And shouting out with heart and soul, we say:

Light is softly bright

Unapologetic absence

Light is filler

Light is gallant

Light is a horse drawn carriage

Light is a drug the size of a horse

Light is truth risking everything for every one who isn’t Light

Light is

all-encompassing

Light is the impossibility of perspective

and sight

Light is reflected

Light is 𝓻𝓮𝓯𝓻𝓪𝓬𝓽𝓮𝓭

Light deliberately waits for no one

Light desperately hides behind cloud cover

Light shows us *what* we think we know

And perhaps as queerly

Reminds us of Who we are not

To God and each other

And anyway, I can’t trust a light

that refuses their/Their dark

Can you?

How do we un/re/de-tell the story and how do we heal?
